Although historically people have placed buoys in the lake to demarcate swimming areas, slalom courses, etc, it is actually required by NY law to acquire a permit for these buoys.
The number of buoys in the lake has attracted the attention of the Sheriff's office responsible for lake safety, and they are now looking to educate the community about the law.
